The inaugural Fleet Week Houston, held April 15–22, 2026, marked a historic moment not only for the Houston community but for the entire state of Texas. For the first time, a Texas city welcomed multiple U.S. Navy vessels and more than 1,000 Sailors, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen for a week of celebration, connection, and reflection. As part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration, this event honored 250 years of service, sacrifice, and the enduring spirit of our nation.
On Sunday, April 19th, along the shoreline of Sylvan Beach, the PFC Matthew K Guyon Foundation had the profound honor of participating in this extraordinary event. We were privileged to set up a 50-flag Honor Field display—each flag standing in tribute to our nation’s veterans and their service to our country. Despite an unusually chilly and extremely windy day, those flags stood tall, their movement in the strong coastal winds serving as a powerful and living symbol of resilience, sacrifice, and pride.
In addition to the Honor Field, we hosted a table where we had the opportunity to connect with members of the public, share the mission of our foundation, and speak about the legacy we strive to carry forward in Matthew’s name. One of the most meaningful parts of the day was educating attendees on the significance of the Gold Star—what it represents, and the families who bear that distinction with quiet strength and enduring love.
The turnout on Sunday was truly profound. Even with the cold and wind, the community showed up in full force. We were humbled by the number of people who stopped to listen, to learn, and to honor. Conversations were heartfelt, support was overwhelming, and the sense of unity was deeply felt throughout the day.
Fleet Week Houston, hosted by the City of Houston in collaboration with the Port of Houston, Houston First Corporation, and other valued partners, created a space where service members and civilians could come together in appreciation and unity. To be included in such a meaningful and historic event was an honor we will never forget.
