It has been such a peaceful and restorative few days in Texas Wine Country, Fredericksburg, TX. Thanks to the Gold Star Parents Retreat, we were invited to spend four days and three nights at Texas Wine Country Jellystone Park—time that proved to be more meaningful than words can fully capture.

Our first evening welcomed us to Hye Meadow Winery, where we shared a wine tasting and a wonderful dinner. It was the perfect setting to begin this special time together. The following day, we wandered through downtown Fredericksburg, enjoying the charm of the shops and the slower pace. That evening brought us to the beautiful Andreucci Winery for another tasting and an authentic Italian dinner that felt both elegant and comforting.

On day three, we visited Garrison Brothers Distillery for a tour and, of course, a bourbon tasting, along with lunch on-site. Each experience was thoughtfully planned, but what mattered most wasn’t just where we went—it was who we were with.

The opportunity to truly breathe, to relax, and to connect with other Gold Star parents was profound. To speak our heroes’ names freely, to hear the stories of their lives, and to carry those stories forward—those moments are priceless. Each child’s legacy was honored, shared, and gently etched onto all of our hearts.

We are deeply grateful to the Burgess family and the incredible group of volunteers who made this weekend possible. Your kindness created not just a retreat, but a space for healing, connection, and remembrance.

Beautiful place. Beautiful people. Beautiful memories made.
